My husband’s, cousin’s daughter is getting married! No need to feel confused, we’re just a close family, and a cousin in law’s daughter’s bridal shower is definitely an event to make a dress for! While you draw a chart to figure it out, I’m going to start sewing!
I chose this pattern from my collection, and this fun fabric that I had been hanging onto. OK, there’s a thin line between hanging onto something and hoarding it, but since I’m putting it to use, I’m going with the latter!

Only a few pieces to this one, but I have to sort the pieces first!

This fabric has a name, it’s “Best Friends”. I thought it looked more like, “Gossip Girls”, so that’s what I started calling it. I thought it was a perfect fit for a bridal shower!

Making the darts. This dress is incredibly fitted. I started getting nervous about my pattern choice. Would I be comfortable? Guess we’ll find out. I was too far into the project to turn back.

Sewing the facing onto the neck. This dress was moving along smoothly and then….

I snagged my finger on a pin! Sewing is a dangerous sport!

The dress has a two vent slits on each side, to make walking easier. I’ve done this type of slit only once before. The good thing about my sewing challenge is that I am getting a lot of practice!

I’m finding that the majority of patterns from the 1950’s and 1960’s want the garments to be finished with a blind hem stitch, and hem tape. Good thing Grandma had quite the collection!
Using Grandma’s hem tape. Glad she saved it!

Stitching the hem by hand and this happens again!!! Are you kidding me? How many times am I going to poke myself while making this dress?

Deciding on accessories. Gloves? Cape jacket for sure, it was going to be chilly. I bought this vintage cape style jacket about 10 years ago at a Goodwill Store, it was such a good find!

And I was ready! The big day had come! I had to send a quick selfie to my think tank!

I never pass up an opportunity to wear a hat!

I got to sit and enjoy an afternoon with two of my favorite “Gossip Girls”! My sister Shelby, and sister Summer. (She might look familiar, see previous blog post, “More Scrubs?Good Grief!”.)

And let’s not forget this favorite “Gossip Girl”, my beautiful niece Khloe!

Oh yeah, and the reason we’re here…my cousin Sydney. It was such a nice afternoon. We all enjoyed getting together and wishing her the best!

I was comfortable the entire time, so I guess I worried about this style for nothing!
I’m excited for Sydney’s big day, and another excuse to make a custom dress and wear a hat!
Thus ends the first of many wedding posts! With so many things to do with an upcoming wedding, I had to get back to my sewing room fast!
As for me, onto the next!
Can’t wait to see your outfit for the wedding!
Absolutely love the way this one looks on you, especially with the jacket❤️
