“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”~Martin Luther King Jr.
So sorry faithful readers, I have been busy! For weeks and weeks now I haven’t had any new posts. I’ve been sewing, but not on anything that would be big enough to post about. Then I started on a big sew for Easter, which I will post in the next few weeks.
I must also confess friends, I have had a hard time staying motivated when it comes to sewing. I think the pace in which I have sewn in the past, plus life, has burnt me out. I still love sewing, I just needed a break!
I didn’t get much of a break though! Here are some pictures of sews, and life, that I have been up to lately.
First, I made another quilt for “Operation Kid Comfort”. It’s a program that offers quilts for children who’s military parent is getting deployed. For many years I have volunteered my time and talent to make these quilts. Here is my latest!

This quilt wasn’t a blog post because I’ve posted all about it before! In case you missed it and want to check it out again, here’s the link!
Then, life happened. Michael had a birthday and I bought him a little amplifier for his old guitar. He used to play when we first got married, but life got busy for him too! The guitar had been stored, but has made its comeback! It’s a good hobby for him when it’s too cold to go out and work on cars.

Then first thing in the morning we got a text. My cousin Russell had a giant oak, that was right next to his house, fall over in the middle of the night. It was blocking his driveway, and while he was texting the other half of it fell! We decided to drive to his house, and help him with his tree problem!

There was so much to cut up and move out of the way, and it decided to snow on us while we worked. Here’s Michael and David in the middle of the mess.

Luckily enough, neither part of the tree fell on the house, and it very well could have! The house was safe, and so were baby Bert, and baby Byron inside!

I was by then in the middle of my big Easter sew. I decided to take a break from my big project and make a little Easter Bunny. I got the pattern for this little guy from a fellow sewing enthusiast that I follow on Instagram. Ottillia is her Instagram name, she is a toy maker who lives in Finland. She very generously shares her patterns on her page for all to enjoy.
Here’s my mini Easter Bunny!

Then my car won second place in a car show!

Here she is, ready to be judged. Of course she was next to the mustang that Michael also restored.

In case you missed it, here is the dress I made to match my car, and the story of how Michael restored it for me.
Here’s a link to the shirt I made for Michael back when he had just finished restoring the mustang, and entered it into a car show!
As I write up this blog I have just finished making six lap quilts for someone who lost their father, and wanted his shirts and pants made into mementos for her family. I have previously posted myself making a t-shirt quilt, so it wouldn’t do to repeat myself. BUT if you missed it, here’s the link!
Tomorrow morning, after some coffee and a walk, I’ll begin my next project. It just happens to be another quilt for Camp Pendleton, and “Operation Kid Comfort”.
After that I feel like I’m ready to get back into my sewing room and get back to sewing all of the patterns I have. So thanks for being patient with me, and keep an eye out for sews still to come!
In case you need to hear this; if you are burned out in any aspect of your life, it’s ok to take a break!
BUT,
As for me, onto the next!
I love this blog post and the overall message! We all feel burnout sometimes and it’s definitely okay to take a break.
I love hearing about all to have going on. You’re not just one dimensional, someone who only enjoys sewing. You enjoy many aspects of life including spending time with family, helping others, walking, reading, etc. Life gets busy, it’s good to rest, recover, and rejuvenate
“It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night…for God gives rest to his loved ones.” – Psalms 127:2
I’ve been missing your posts but understand the burn out. Plus there’s so much to look back on!! Always good to take a break and come back fresh!!
Cute little bunny!! Looking forward to what’s next.
I love seeing new posts, but I’m probably just as happy to look back over previous ones too. As you get older, you forget stuff a lot…lol …it’s kind of like a new one because you might not remember it that well…life definitely gets overwhelming sometimes. Love you and all you do❤️❤️❤️
We love and appreciate you, your wonderful talents and your loving heart thank you for all you do and for being you!
