Something that I’ve discovered about taking after pictures of my sewing projects is that it is hard to do a photo shoot. I realized that it is easier to take pictures if you have an event or destination to wear the finished garment to. So now I’m very aware of upcoming events and plans and try to coordinate my sews to them.
With that being said, my husband, Michael, was entering my son’s car into a local car show. Perfect opportunity to theme an outfit to an event!
The car I’m talking about is David’s 1967 Mustang Fastback. Why does David have a fancy, classic muscle car? Well the car originally was owned by my dad. He bought it when he was about 19 years old. The car was our family car for a long time, until it got parked. When my sister and I entered high school, my dad got the old mustang running for my sister Michelle. In typical “we don’t get rid of stuff” fashion, Michelle held onto the car. It had in the years since she graduated broke down, gotten broken into, and fell into really bad shape.
Michelle didn’t want to mess with the expense of paying for the car’s restoration, and Michael wanted a father-son project car, so she gave the car to David.
Michael and David worked on the car for 4 years, and it is now a beauty! Here is a picture of the car, all restored.
I needed a dress for the car show, so I looked through my patterns and found this one, a 1967 original Simplicity pattern, which is the same year as the car. I decided to go with view 2.
All of the pattern pieces were still in the envelope. Old pattern pieces are so much more substantial than modern day patterns.
Wait, why did they cut out the dart? I was confused why they did, but it didn’t matter much. I worked around it.
It’s a simple dress with only a few pieces.
I didn’t have a zipper that matched so I went with a navy zipper that I had. I have used this fabric before, in a skirt for Elizabeth. (See blog post, “They Understood The Assignment”.) I also used a navy zipper in her skirt, and thought it went well then, so I just went with it for this sew too!
I try really hard to not buy anything for my sews. I like to use what I have in my stash.
Sewing the zipper in.
Making it work by piecing in the interfacing. No sense in it going to waste, and you can’t see it anyways.
Pinning on the collar, see, the interfacing is all hidden on the inside.
The car was all shined up and ready for the car show!
Here it is, waiting to be judged. I took some pictures of myself in my 1967 dress with the car at the show. I used Michael’s phone to take the pictures. My cell phone was old and the battery died. So all of the pictures were taken on his phone. Why do you need this information? Because he deleted the pictures!!! He sat in his recliner, thought, “I don’t need all of these pictures of the car show” and deleted them!
YES, he knows I have a blog. YES, he knows I made a dress for the occasion. YES, he too was wearing a themed shirt that I had sewn to match the car….KNOWING it was for my blog. But he “wasn’t thinking”.
So to the backyard I go, to set a timer on the camera of my NEW phone, to take my own after pictures of my dress.
I liked the sleeves on this dress, and the collar.
I like the way it the dress turned out, and it was a hit at the car show. (I’m trying to smile and keep an eye on Hyacinth, my backyard chicken, who kept bugging me.)
This is the best I could do for my impromptu photo shoot with a chicken running around at my feet.
But the backyard photo shoot went well enough.
I wasn’t really upset about the deleted pictures. Michael isn’t used to me using his phone for my blog, and we all make mistakes. I’ll update everyone on how the car show went next week when I post Michael’s 1967 themed garment.
As for me, onto the next!
LOL…of course he deleted them 🤣🤣🤣 Love that color on you!!! 🤗🤗🤗
