So there I was, in the middle of a sewing project, like always, and Mia convinces me to go to Disneyland with her. Of course I would need an outfit, or two! I had four days to get somethings made for myself. I decided on this shirt. The pattern is from 1989, and from the picture on the front of the pattern sleeve, you could tell! I looked through many of my shirt patterns, and almost chose another one that was a 1940’s reissued pattern, which was more complicated. Michelle, my observant sister, pointed out that if you look past the 80’s fashioning of this one, it was almost identical to the 1940’s pattern, but this one was not as complicated. This one would definitely be the time saver I needed! I wanted a 1940’s look since I knew I was going to make the shirt out of some Pinocchio fabric that I had.
Pinocchio was released in 1940, and I wanted my shirt to match the era of the movie.
This pattern was one that belonged to Grandma Doris. The look of the shirt was something I could picture her in for sure!
My current sewing project got pushed back, and I began my marathon sew of Disney themed outfits for myself! Quickly pinning the pattern.
Sewing it up. This pattern only had two main pieces and the collar facing.
Pinocchio is so happy on this fabric, to finally be a real boy. The story of Pinocchio is fascinating if you think about it. He wants to be a real boy so much, that he does a bunch of crazy things to try to fit it with they rest of his peers. We all know where that gets him, kidnapped and at Pleasure Island where kids get turned into donkeys. Which is what you become when you follow the crowd to try to fit in and be something that you’re not. Like the movie says, “always let your conscience be your guide”.
Or as Susan B Anthony said,
Little Pinocchio should have listened to Jiminy Cricket, and Susan B. Anthony! But as we all probably know, sometimes you just have to learn a lesson for yourself!
Hemming up the sleeve.
Not much to this one, thank goodness, so off I went! Mia had time to make some Pinocchio ears to match my shirt!
The shirt perfectly matches Pinocchio’s Daring Journey! We got there early and took pictures right away. By doing this we were able to not get people in the background, and it looks like we had Disneyland all to ourselves!
I don’t really like this picture of myself, the sun was in my eyes. But, look at my shadow, is it me or Peter Pan? HA!
No one in line means time for another picture!
Getting ready to ride.
No flash photography means blurry pictures with weird lighting, but we did what we could!
The fabric looked great under the black lights that are on the ride.
Me, zooming into my dream kitchen!
This is where my passion for wall clocks was born, from this movie and this ride!
I was happy with my themed shirt and will wear it again, and not just to Disneyland.
It is always more fun to go somewhere in a one of a kind outfit! Mia got more compliments than I did that day, but her Star Wars dress is amazing, I understand why! I have a theory that you get complimented more wearing a homemade outfit, than a store bought outfit. So far my theory is right.
I guess we can all learn something from Pinocchio. Don’t follow the crowd and listen to your Jiminy Cricket! My Jiminy Cricket is telling me to relax and enjoy the little things each day. I’m going to listen!
As for me, onto the next!
