When Mia was a senior in high school, she was going to Disneyland for Grad Nite. Of course, even back then, I knew she needed a custom dress for the occasion. She picked out this fabric which features many different Disney Princesses.
Here Mia is back in 2016, right after I had finished making this dress. If you’re paying close attention you might notice that this is the same pattern that I used to make the “Star Wars” dress. (See blog post “A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away”.) When I was first trying my hand at sewing clothes I would do each pattern a few times until I felt confident with it. Practice makes perfect I guess!
This picture was taken right before she got on the bus to head to Disneyland. I put an applique mouse ears silhouette on a cardigan to tie the outfit together. I also made her a matching clutch. This was the beginning of us dressing specific for occasions.
Although this dress is very specific, Mia did wear it again. Here are some pictures of a Disneyland trip a few years later, where her dress got to dazzle the Magic Kingdom again!
David and Elizabeth are both wearing custom shirts that I made. Well, the shirts are store bought, and I made the appliques that are on them. Elizabeth is featuring a Hitchhiking Ghost from the Haunted Mansion ride, and David is sporting his all time Disney favorite, Herbie The Love Bug!
Disney fun!
“Smile if your mom sews”, HA!
We’ve been going to Disneyland as a family for quite some time. It seems like Elizabeth managed to end up there with us even in the early days! Just for fun here’s a throw back picture of us waiting for California Adventure to open early one morning.
Elizabeth now lives about 20 minutes from Disneyland, so she’ll probably be along on every future trip with us as well! Which is exactly what we’re used to. Wouldn’t be the same without her with us!
But here we are now in 2022, and Mia was back in California to use her previously bought Disneyland tickets. Which happened to be for two days! We spent day two of our Disneyland trip in California Adventure.
Mia decided to wear her Princess dress for the third time to Disneyland! This time she made ears to match!
So, once upon a time, there was a magical dress that kept making it’s way into an enchanted kingdom for all who saw it to be amazed and delighted.
The dress was supposed to be in Paris, but world events made it not a great idea to be traveling, so the dress stayed stateside. (Yes, Mia and Elizabeth actually had plane tickets and tickets to Disneyland Paris, and then Russia decided to act like fools and they decided it was best to cancel the trip.)
Mia is posing with Rapunzel who is one of the Princesses featured on Mia’s dress.
Magic!
Taking pictures in the Beast’s library.
Only the presence of a magical dress can break the spell and turn the Beast back into a human.
Spell broken! The dress really is magical! HA!
Glad we got that sorted out and put things back to normal!
“Who’s the fairest of them all?”, the magic mirror asks.
It’s Mia in her custom dress, of course!
Mia’s favorite Princess.
On the Ariel ride.
Going under the sea!
Me! Taking a picture of Mia! We go to great lengths for this blog!
Go ahead and sing your favorite song from the Little Mermaid for this and the next picture!
Blurry King Triton.
Our trip was so fun, and Mia looked and felt amazing in her dress! So you know how a fairy tale or a dress tale in this case, ends…..
But wait! There’s more! Here are some super fun “behind the scene” pictures of Elizabeth taking pictures of Mia.
Everyone really goes to great lengths to help me with my blog.
I don’t think my challenge of sewing every pattern I own would be successful without everyone behind the scenes helping me with pictures, ideas, and encouragement! Shout out to my think tank, Elizabeth, Michelle, and Mia!
As for me, onto the next!
I love theming for a trip or event! This dress has stood the test of time. I loved wearing it around the park! Sew good! Ha! ❤️
These were my favorite pics from that trip. Animation Academy for the win!
