A big event was about to happen in the family. My sweet baby cousin Bodie was about to celebrate his 1st birthday! I love sewing for an event, and knew that his party was going to be Mickey Mouse themed. I asked if I could make him an outfit for his special day, and his mom and dad said yes! I was so excited to make this cute little birthday ensemble!
I had this red, Mickey fabric leftover from making Bodie a quilt before he was born. The leftover was enough for his outfit.
The solid black fabric was remnants from Michael’s 1966 shirt. (See blog post, “The Perfect Family Car”.)
To turn the collar right side out I used a crochet hook. It fit into the little corner perfectly, and without poking or tearing the fabric.
Sewing it together.
Adding the yellow buttons. I also had these laying around in my stash. I sewed the buttons with yellow thread so they would blend in.
The only purchase I made to construct this outfit was that I bought a snap tool. I had previously made a baby outfit, and used snap tape. (See previous blog post, “Baby Luka’s Big Adventure”.) I discovered while making that outfit that I hated snap tape. It wanted to twist the garment and it was a big hassle.
I invested in a snap tool and found that it was a lot easier to work with than the snap tape! They’re not perfect, this was my first time using a snap tool, but it’s better than snap tape.
I learn something new every sew!
I was thrilled with how the outfit turned out, now I had to deliver it, and wait for Bodie’s big day!
This birthday boy couldn’t get any cuter!!!
He looked adorable for his big day!
His mouse ears were the perfect accessory!
Bodie and me enjoying his party. Of course I had to match the Disney theme and wear my Pinocchio shirt.
Kira had to steal him away for pictures and kisses!
Cake time!
Figuring it all out!
Hooray for cake and turning 1!
It was a great day celebrating Bodie’s 1st birthday! It was really nice to get together with family and share our love for him, and enjoy his special day! Thank you Matt and Nicole for letting me make his birthday outfit!
One of the things I love about sewing and creating is sharing my creations with those that I love! My second love of this outfit was that it was made out of scrap that I had laying around! I really like being able to use up what I have and not let any of it go to waste.
As for me, onto the next!
His outfit was truly adorable. Love ❤️
