I have my patterns organized by brand, and then numerically. I started with the first one, and am going through them in order. For whatever random reason, I have two different scrub patterns back to back! This one was a little less awkward, so my sister in law Summer volunteered right away (plus she’s a nurse, so it’s actually practical for her).
I asked her to pick a fabric. A print? Solid? Character? She chose her favorite, Charlie Brown. Look how cute he is, and I know I personally relate to Charlie Brown every year at Christmas.
Laying out the pattern. Always make sure you’re paying attention to the grain of the fabric. You wouldn’t want it to look wonky.
I used Grandma’s magnetic pin holder for this one. It’s really heavy, and I had the fan on, so it helped to hold the pattern down while I pinned it. I don’t know where Grandma got it, but it’s one of my favorite things to use, it’s very handy!
(Also, those are Grandma’s pins still on it. It’s one of the ways that makes me feel like we’re sewing together)
Attaching a sleeve. I always pin everything like crazy. Nothing is more annoying than having to go back and seam rip.
Sides pinned, and ready to sew together. Side note, never put pins in your mouth while you’re sewing. It’s a bad habit to get into, and you could swallow or inhale one…..nightmare fuel!
Nothing to have grief about with this shirt!
To trim it out I chose black rick rack as a tribute to Charlie Brown’s famous yellow and black zig-zag shirt.
I chose yellow ties in the back, for a splash of color and as another tie in to match Charlie Brown’s shirt. (Get it, TIE in…haha)
So cute and it has functional pockets, which every nurse needs.
And here is Summer wearing her scrub top to work! She looks super cute in her custom top!
Hopefully it will bring a smile to someone’s face each time she wears it. And I hope it makes Summer smile to wear it!
I’m tagging this post with a “Clothes In The Wild” tag, which means each time someone where’s something that I’ve made out and about, they will try to get a pic of the clothes in action. So keep your eye out for more of those.
As for me, onto the next!
