As promised, there was more than one homemade outfit that made it out to Eagle Field for the fly in. Michael wore a shirt, from a pattern that I’ve previously made, but it was made out of Grandpa’s WWII fabric. The fly in was the perfect place to make a fashion statement with old fabric!
But I did not make this shirt specifically for Eagle Field. I made it about a year ago, for David. It was the first project I made with the WWII fabric. It was a project that was before my blog.
I was pressed for time with this event, so figured Michael could wear it, and save me some sewing time!
The fabric has a tight weave and doesn’t breathe much. Thankfully it was a cool day, so Michael wasn’t too hot in it.
It matches this tank perfectly! I can barely see Michael, he’s so camouflaged! HA!
Looking spiffy in the Administration Building.
Representing! This was one of Michael’s favorite planes, but since he was in the Marine Corp., he’s biased!
Here Michael is in his early Marine Corp. days. He is a Gulf War Veteran and was one of the first Marine units to land in Saudi Arabia. He was also a part of Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, and the Mt. Pinatubo Relief Effort.
For fun here’s a picture of Michael in Saudi Arabia. He’s the guy in the middle.
Another Saudi Arabia picture, Michael loading rockets onto a helicopter.
And here’s a picture of Michael in Somalia.
Military service must run in his family. Here is Michael’s Grandfather, Vito Bianculli. He was in the navy and fought in WWII.
But Michael’s family history of military service goes back further than that. Here is Michael’s Great-Grandfather, Vito Bianculli Sr. He was in the Army and fought in WWI. I think Michael and David resemble him a little.
Back to Eagle Field and another Marines plane.
There were so many photo opportunities.
Me and my date!
In the NCO Club.
Michael was tired of posing for pictures, so I took an impromptu one!
They called up service members by branch, so the Marines got represented in a one of a kind shirt!
Of course we had a great dinner, and had fun at the dance. Michael was happy to once again represent the United States Marine Corps. This isn’t the last sew for this event, I have one more to go, so stay tuned!
Seems like things get passed through the generations. We are more connected to the people who came before us than we think.
As for me, onto the next!
That fabric is magic! You will never run out! ❤️
Great idea for Michael to wear that shirt. It fits right in❤️
Another great story and photos!! So happy to see you have a photo of Granddad Bianculli in his uniform! I’ll save it to my photos!!❤️
(FYI i have
