Yep, to grandmother’s house I go! It is always a bittersweet trip to go to Grandma’s house now, because she’s not there. I expect to see her when I walk in the door, or have her faithful dog Rowdy greet me. “Sigh”….As for now my cousin Jennifer is house sitting while grandma’s estate is settled, and Jennifer asked me for a sewing lesson. So off to sew AT Grandma’s!
I chose a simple project to teach her, a cross body bag. It has two zippered pockets, and is lined on the inside. You can make it out of one, or two fabrics, depending on the look you’re going for.
Jennifer chose this super fun Avenger’s fabric!
We set the kitchen table up as our workspace, so we could both sew at the same time. Note the “me made” shirt that I’m wearing.
For her contrast fabric, Jennifer chose some of Grandpa’s WWII fabric. (I told you to keep an eye out for it, it will be popping up a lot!)
I sewed my bag on Grandma’s sewing machine. The thread she had last used was still on the machine, and it matched my bag, so there was no need to change it.
Jennifer did such a good job on her bag! I love Grandpa’s fabric on this bag. I feel like the WWII fabric coordinates with Captain America and her Avenger’s theme.
By leaving the strap long and tying a knot it the end, it can be adjusted to any length.
I work at an Elementary School, so I’ll be using my bag at work. I bought the fabric at the little store up the hill from Grandma’s house, where she liked to shop at.
It was a fun day, sewing at Grandma’s house. I passed on some tricks of the trade to Jennifer, and made a little something for myself on Grandma’s machine.
But before I left I had to go up to Grandma’s sewing room. At the top of the stairs I was greeted by Grandpa’s smiling face.
And I had to sit in Grandma’s sewing chair, and enjoy her view.
And now as for me, onto the next!
