Mia has always loved Ariel. She’s also thought she was part mermaid since she was a very little girl.
She planned a trip to Disneyland with one of her friends, and of course needed a custom dress! She chose this pattern for her dress, and we found this super cute Ariel fabric to make it out of.
This dress is a simple pattern with some features that I really like. The view Mia chose is kind of a classic. It won’t go out of style too quickly, those are my favorite patterns to make.
Right it the middle of making this dress I got a surprise in the mail! My cousin Melanie made this sign for me to hang in my sewing room! I love it so much! It means so much to me that my family supports my endeavors. I can’t wait to make something for her. All in good time! Too bad Grandma still didn’t have the Esprit pants pattern that Melanie had wore back in the day. I would be sizing it into and adult size so Melanie could rock those pants again! But sadly I didn’t find the pattern in Grandma’s things. Don’t give up hope Melanie, there’s always the internet, or maybe a few boxes of Grandma’s things to go through! The pants could be yours again.
Just for fun here’s a pic of Melanie wearing the Esprit pattern that Grandma made her. She had them in almost every color. (And look at my cousin Justin as a baby! What a sweet little face!!)
And here’s Melanie crouching with Grandma and Grandpa while wearing her black pair….so versatile! Why is everyone crouching? Well that’s a whole other story!
Am I rambling a bit, maybe, but it’s my blog, I’ll ramble if I want! 🙂
Basting it in place….and then BAM!!! Life happens!!
Mia gets a job at the University of North Georgia! So two days after the job offer, we’re packed and on the road. Disneyland plans were all put on hold, but the dress got packed and made the long drive.
We made it!
It’s a beautiful campus that Mia will be working at. It kind of has a flare of Disney magic.
Mia is bringing some Disney magic of her own to her new job!
I guess taking pictures for your mom’s blog is hilarious!
Perfect dress for the Georgia heat.
So exciting that the dorm decorations went along with her mermaid themed dress!
Let me take a second to talk about make up. There is a company in Burbank, Ca called Besame that sells vintage cosmetics, and they are amazing! They do not in any way sponsor me (I wish) I just love their make up so much! Mia is wearing their Dusty Rose lip stick, and their Marilyn Monroe eye shadow. I’ll be pointing them out in upcoming blog posts whenever someone is wearing it, because we’re Besame junkies!
About a week after moving, while unpacking Mia found this card that Grandma had sent her in college. Seems like she is wishing her the best in this new chapter as well!
Mia has brought her own fashion flare to Georgia, and is getting used to her new world. She’s happy there, so we’re happy too!
As for me, onto the next!
This is the BEST post! 💕
Again, “Mia Mermaid” is rocking the outfit and makeup!! You are beautiful no matter what you are wearing!!❤️❤️ Love, Grandma Cyndy 🧜♀️🧜♀️
I agree Mia, “best post”!! The fabric is you and that style of dress is very becoming on you❣️Perfect as always, love you 😘😘❤️
Love this – and we really need to find that pattern! Lol!
Thanks for taking me down fashion memory lane. I loved my esprit pants back in the day and would love to have a pair in my closet again. I hope you two are successful in hunting that pattern down. Love that Mia is taking her vintage style, memories and a piece of mom and grandma with her in her new adventure. That’s it’s a Disney fabric in adult disguise is amazing, Happy sewing!
Pretty dress for a pretty young lady….beautifully made too!
So much fun!!! That dress is perfect for her! 💕
