I love it when I get to a pattern that Grandma has made notes on! Apparently, this is a “Top- Good for Doris”. If it worked so well for Grandma it might just work for me too!
I figured since the copyright on the pattern was 1992, that my Golden Girls fabric would be great to use with this sew! After all 1992 was the last year that “The Golden Girls” were on the air, so it would be a perfect tribute to the show, and Grandma, one of the best “Golden Girls” I’ve ever known.
This pattern WAS so easy! It only had a few pieces so cutting it out took no time at all.
The fabric has a 1990’s vibe to it, in both the colors and the design. I thought it might look too dated, but even if it did, at least it would be fun! Fashion cycles anyways. It seems like things from the early 1990’s are starting to make a comeback.
Sewing the pieces together and zig-zag stitching my raw edges.
Zig-zag stitching the edges after the pieces have been sewn together help to keep the fabric from fraying. I’m holding up the part that has already been stitched.
Hemming the sleeves and the bottom. I told you, this was an easy one.
Now where to take pictures? As you will notice I will go to great lengths to get fun photos of my sews. This one had me stumped. I thought maybe in front of the Golden Girls house. The house is in Los Angeles, and was used only for the outside shots of the house. I took this picture of the house in 2019.
Here I am in front of it, without a custom shirt, since this picture was also taken in 2019.
Going to Los Angeles is something I would do, but Elizabeth informed me that the new owners of the house have put up a fence and planted a big hedge, so the house is no longer visible from the street. Party poopers!
In brainstorming for a location I realized that I need not look further than my own lanai! HA! Nothing wrong with sitting on your own porch. Like Grandma, I sit on the porch a lot. I drink tea in the mornings there before I leave for work. I sometimes crochet or knit on the porch. Or talk across the fence to my neighbor from the porch. Grandma loved to visit on the porch on a nice day. The last time I saw her before her stroke we had a nice visit out on her porch. So a porch photo shoot seemed simple and perfect.
Here we are, on the porch.
Michelle came over and started my porch photo shoot. I don’t think the shirt looks too “1990’s”. I will say it is loose and flows, which makes it comfortable. The pattern front showed it with a belted option. I tried a belt and felt a little bit like me freshman year of high school, HA! Needless to say, no belt for me!
Yes, I have Golden Girls mugs that I drink my tea out of. What can I say, I’m a fan!
The shirt was comfy and cute. I was happy with the way it turned out.
Enjoy a nice visit on your porch, or lanai. Enjoy a nice cup of tea, or whatever you like to sit and sip. Have some cheesecake with friends. Enjoy the people that are in your life. It’s the simple things in life that matter. Whatever it is you like to do, make time to do it, and be true to yourself. Stay Golden!
There was only one thing left for me to do with this sew, and only one more picture to add to this post.
As for me, onto the next!
I love that you added your own note on the pattern! Made me tear up ❤️

Another great project. I like the loose fit on this one. Golden Girl ease 🙂

Fits you to a ‘T’ & colours have a nice fresh look. If it was good enough for Doris, it is certainly good enough for you! 👏
