I had the pattern for this poncho, and the weather was beginning to cool off. I thought it would be the perfect thing for Alice. The pattern called for fleece. I try not to buy new fabric, but instead to use what I have, or up cycle. It doesn’t work for all of my sews, but I try. I had this “Legend Of Zelda” fleece in my stash, and enough to make a poncho.
I thought it might look kind of boyish, but figured it would have a ruffle. Also, who cares! Girls can most definitely like “The Legend Of Zelda” too!
There were only a few pieces to cut.
The poncho has a “V” neck, so here I am stitching the stay stitches onto the neck.
The pattern also called for bias tape around the “V” neck. I already had this green bias tape in my stash.
Sewing up the hood.
The hood is two pieces sewn with the right sides together, then flipped. I had just finished top stitching it in this picture.
Attaching the hood to the rest of the poncho.
Gathering the ruffle.
Attaching the ruffle to the bottom of the poncho.
Then just like that, the poncho was finished and on Alice, but of course the story doesn’t end there!
There must be something about a hooded poncho, and “Legend Of Zelda” fleece that makes the wearer become an adventurer! Alice had found a staff, and had somehow fallen into a quest of her own!
While playing with a little baby doll and enjoying her poncho, her Papa had vanished into an enchanted woods!
Alice was distraught at first, and wasn’t sure what to do!
Then she knew that she had to go into the enchanted woods to find him!
So off on her quest she went, magic staff in hand!
She came upon a bog.
There had to be a way to get across the bog!
She found an old rock bridge and carefully began to make her way across the dangerous body of water.
Suddenly the woods began to change. Everything around Alice began to turn into some sort of animation! She must get away or she would turn animated herself! She had to find her Papa, and complete her quest!
The enchantment on the woods began to turn Alice as well, maybe her poncho could help to protect her so she could make it to safety! She began to run!
It worked! Her poncho had helped to protect her from the enchanted woods! She had made it across the bog, off of the rock bridge and out of the enchanted woods!
She still had to find her Papa, but she had a thought. Perhaps the staff she found had some magic in it. She waved it around and said, “find Papa”.
Much to her delight butterflies shot out of her magic staff, and starting flying. They lead her directly to…
Her Papa! Her quest was complete! She was exhausted and could barely keep her eyes open!
Like Alice, we should never lose our sense of adventure or imagination! You might someday stumble into a quest yourself! Be prepared! Adventures and quests often catch you off guard, it’s okay to be afraid, but remember to just keep going, and you’ll succeed! Hopefully you’ll have a homemade poncho to protect you, or at least a light jacket!
(No toddlers were harmed in the making of this blog post. HA!)!
As for me, onto the next!
