If you’ve been following along you’ll know that I’ve previously made the shirt and jacket from this pattern. It was time to finish up and make the skirt. I made the skirt out of the same fabric as the jacket, for a matching look. So here it goes!
The skirt seemed easy enough. It had three pieces, the front, back and waistband. It has a vented slit in the back, which was okay, I’ve done that before.
Marking the darts with tailor’s chalk. My red pins in my pin cushion are my favorite ones. They have glass heads instead of plastic. If I accidentally get one under the iron, they won’t melt like the plastic ones could. Is this a problem I’ve had? Well, no, but it’s a problem I don’t need! HA!
Sewing the darts. I always pin one pin the opposite way so I know where the end of the dart is.
More darts for the back of the skirt.
Pinning the back sections together, and marking where I need to baste for the vent slit in the back.
The slit in the back looks like this.
It was time for a side zipper.
I then attached the waist band and and stitched the inside of it. Of course I didn’t get pictures of this step. Then it was time to hem the skirt, again by hand. That I did get a picture of!
So, in case you don’t remember, here’s how the shirt came out.
And here’s the jacket.
The skirt finished and paired with the shirt!
I love the shirt so much! I might make it again in different fabric.
The whole thing together!
Now where am I going to wear it to first? Maybe fabric shopping! HA!
I really have no idea where I’ll wear it, but each piece can stand on it’s own and can be mixed and matched for any occasion! I just need to remember that any day can be an occasion if you decide that it will be!
As for me, onto the next!
Absolutely lovely! Very classic style! I wish we still lived in the days where we dressed up to go shopping, out to lunch or dinner. Especially when people travel. I think this outfit would be great for any occasion! Great outfit!!
OH MY!!! This one is absolutely fantastic❤️ You are right that each piece can stand by itself, but together…WOW!!! Don’t even know what to say! Classic style, you could wear that for business or more casual. I love that it looks so fancy, but still has the whimsical print of the shirt. In the running for my all time favorite ❣️❣️❣️
Love this outfit and of course the model!! Very classy. Good job Nicole.
PS I love you’re teaching Michael to sew!! ❤️
