Alice’s Fun In The Sundress

With summer here, Alice needed a new outfit! I decided to go with both options, the sun dress and the bikini. This vintage pattern from 1978 was Alice’s size, so I picked out fabric and got to work.

I laid out the pattern pieces on this “cool cat” fabric. It was two things that Alice loves, kitty cats and sunglasses.

The dress has pleats on the front and back.

For the straps of the dress, I sewed them right sides together, then turned them with with my trusty hemostats.

With the facings sewn in I then had to stitch them down by hand.

I got to work on the bikini. Since it’s made out cotton I thought it would be perfect for playing in the sprinkler.

The pattern called for bias tape to be used as the ties. I had this turquoise bias tape and liked the way it matched the turquoise in the fabric.

The bottoms are lined and lining is sewn the same way.

Running elastic through the waistband and legs.

The dress and bikini were delivered, and a quick fashion show that night showed that the dress fit and looked adorable on Alice!

Alice stunned at the zoo in her new dress. she took the opportunity to play on the water playground that was there.

Another day of water fun! This time in her own yard with a fun sprinkler

Sprinkler days are the best days!

It’s the simple things that are the best!

Of the two pieces I like the dress best. It fit perfectly and did not require very much fabric. I might have to make one more for Alice before the summer is out!

Forgive my post for being short but sweet, but I am currently on the road moving Mia back to California. She got a new job, so get ready to see some “new work clothes” sews!
