“The best time to support small businesses is always today.”~Gisele Barreto Fetterman
My cousins Russell and Marisa started a little at-home business called Pantry Portal. They make delicious freeze dried goodies! I’m so excited for them to be trying something new.
Marisa asked if I could make a few reusable bags for them. Of course I could! What fabric should I use? Well the one I have lots of, Grandpa’s WWII fabric!
I got a free pattern for a reusable bag and got to work cutting it out. You cut two pieces for the front and back of the bag.
I then cut out two pieces for the handle lining.
On some of the bags I used whole pieces of fabric. For others I used the excess scrap from the whole bags, pieced it together, and made more bags!
I sewed the handle liner and a bag front with their right sides together.
I sewed up the sides and squared bottom using french seams. This way they wont fray on the inside when washed.
Once finished I stamped their business name onto the bags. I think they look very military with their black stamps on WWII fabric.
Michael, who has been practicing sewing for upholstery reasons, even made one. Great job!

I couldn’t resist making one for myself. I used some scrap floral fabric for the handle lining.
I stamped it with my own blog related saying!
The other side says…..
…of course!
Now for something new!

As for me, onto the next!
There’s nothing I love more than a practical gift, something that I can use over and over and over again! Thank you so much and the cute fabric inside was such a nice surprise
I think these bags are fun AND could be used multiple ways. Not only could they be used from groceries or regular shopping, but also gift bags!
Excellent idea that is practical and stylish! Beautifully executed with a nod to times past ….
