“Doing what’s right today means no regrets tomorrow.” Will Keith Kellogg
While in between some pretty big projects I had a little bit of time. I decided on yet another apron. I am trying to get a lot made to sell in an upcoming craft booth. So you might be seeing lots of different apron posts, but I have lots of apron patterns! Plus, when the time is right, you will get to see the big projects I’ve been working on. Trust me, they’re worth the wait!
Until then here is a darling apron from 1949. I decided to use this Kellogg’s fabric that I’ve had in my stash. Sometimes when a fabric is just fun and calls to me, I have to buy it! This one has been in my stash for more years than I can remember, but would make a perfect apron!
This apron pattern, by the way, came straight from Grandma Doris’ collection. She had many apron patterns, so more to come! I know for certain that Grandma never made this pattern, because when I opened it up I found that it had never been cut! I wrestled with whether I would cut it, or not, and decided to cut it. Some patterns sell for more money if they are uncut, but let’s get real, I’m never going to sell it!
Since this pattern had a full and gathered front, it required more material. Good thing I had bought enough of this one.
Laying out the pattern for the tie string.
Sewing up the darts in the front.
The front of the apron has a facing so that there are no raw edges. Here I’ve ironed the hem of the facing then sewed it.
Zig zag stitching the seams. This helps to keep the raw edges that are on the inside from fraying.
As an added bonus I’ve added a video of the zig zag action, enjoy!
Pinning the top to the bottom. I then sewed it together.
Stitching on the tie straps.
I finished it off with a blind hem stitch. I like to try to make these vintage aprons just as the maker intended. I could alter them to be shorter, or make other changes but I like to stick to what their original design was.
So here it is, this 1949 beauty! It has a handy, large pocket in the front. It buttons around the neck so it is “one sized fits all”.
The back with it’s coordinating buttons, and super cute tie!
Although the pattern is 75 years old, I think the classics never go out of style! Such a lovely design to feel pretty in while you protect your dress. It’s going to be hard to sell this one, I love it so much!
As for me, onto the next!
Love this! 💙💙💙 You need to keep it Nicole! 👏🏼👏🏼
Every gal needs an apron and this one is so cute I love the shape!
Super cute! The fabric is perfect for this pattern.
I can see why you wouldn’t want to sell this one…super cute❣️ And the fabric couldn’t be any better for an apron ❣️
You’ve got to keep this lovely apron for yourself! Your nail varnish matches perfectly!
