“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”~Leonardo Da Vinci
I have so many apron patterns. Aprons were such a daily staple in homes in the past it’s not surprising that the pattern companies produced so many options. Aprons, that would protect the wearers clothing beneath them, were as stylish as clothing itself!
This apron from 1948 would prove to be no different. It’s stylish and an adorable accessory to wear every day.
I chose a floral print for the main body of the apron, and this complimenting yellow for the straps and ribbons.
Looking at the picture on the front I thought that I would have to gather a ruffle for the bottom. I was wrong. It is just a large ruffle section, that when sewn into place, will give it a gathered look.
A quick video of the pattern pieces laid out on the fabric. I had to make sure I had enough before I started cutting.
Laying out the bow pieces and cutting the tie string pieces.
Time to put it all together! The main body had four different darts.
Did I mention this apron had pockets? Most do but this pattern has a lovely tulip shaped pocket. I was a little concerned about getting the pocket facing to lay flat. We’ll see how it goes!
It went perfectly! The facing laid flat! I then had to put two button holes in the pocket where the bow will go through. I then pinned the pocket into place.
I attached the tie strings to the seam allowance so it wouldn’t be seen from the front.
Voila! This beautiful apron was finished!
Here is her side view.
An up close view of the adorable pockets!
The back view. You can see how the ruffle piece falls and looks gathered even though it isn’t.
Are you wondering what I’m going to do with this beauty? I’m going to sell her! I’ve been making things to help Marisa fill her craft booth so this apron will go towards that.
I hope you enjoy these simple posts with simple projects. Knowing me I’ll be knee deep in a difficult sewing project soon!
As for me, onto the next!
As always, great job!!
Love, love, love this apron! Someone is going to snag that quick at the craft fair! 😍
