“Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours of work.”~Usain Bolt
This pattern might look familiar, I made this skirt in July of 2022.

Here is the link to that post in case you want to see how I made it back then.
I wanted a new skirt to wear to a car show, and it was going to be a hot day. I love the original skirt, so I decided to make it again. This time I chose fabric to match a “Ford” shirt that I have.
I chose this fabric from the 1990’s and got to work laying out the pattern.

This skirt has pockets! One of the reasons I love it!

Laying out the back of the skirt.

The first thing I sewed was the draw string. I cut it to the size that was needed, then sewed it with the right sides together.

Once the right sides were sewn together I flipped it, and top stitched the tie. I sewed down both sides of the tie.

Then it was time to prep the pockets to be sewn onto the front. The pattern calls for the opening edge of the pocket to be folded over and sewn. Which was what I did back then. As you can see, they are starting to fray.

This time around I ironed the pocket edge over twice, so the raw fabric edge would be hidden.

I prepped the rest of the pockets so I could sew them onto the front of the skirt.

I pinned the pockets into place.

Then I stitched them down. The pattern called for two rows of stitching to attach them.

You can see the double stitching from the backside of the fabric.

It was then time to pin the two front pieces together.

As you can see, the first time I made this skirt I didn’t put any finishing zig zag stitch on the seams. After much wear and washing they are beginning to fray.

The pattern calls for the front seam to be ironed with the seam open. I made sure that I used the zig zag stitch on both sides of the ironed seam.

As you can see, the first time around I didn’t even trim the seams.

I also didn’t finish the side seams.

Making the casing around the top for the draw string.

Stitching it down.

Once the casing was done I put a safety pin on the end of the tie string to run it through.

Then it was time to hem it!

Both cars were shinned up and ready for the car show!

I was ready for the car show too in my new skirt!

My car didn’t win, Michael’s did though!

Even though the car didn’t win, my new skirt and I were definitely winning!

I made this skirt in one day. It’s comfy and cool on hot days! Maybe I should make one in every color!
It was fun to revisit this pattern, and compare it to the first skirt that I made. I can tell how my sewing skills have improved over time!
As for me, onto the next!
You look right in style, and that bull you car didn’t win…but happy for Mike❤️
